An Annual Awards Program Recognizing Excellence in the Public Transportation Industry
Called the “best of the best” of the public transportation industry, the APTA Award winners are outstanding role models of excellence, leadership, and innovation whose accomplishments have greatly advanced public transportation.
2012 Call for Nominations
Nominations are now open for the 2012 APTA Awards. We strongly encourage you to nominate top individuals and organizations who deserve to be recognized for their significant contributions. Nominations can be made by any official employed by an APTA member in good standing.
The APTA Award winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the 2012 APTA Annual Meeting, held
September 30 - October 3 in Seattle.
The deadline for nominations is April 20, 2012.
Award Categories
The 2012 award categories are:
- Outstanding Public Transportation Manager Award
This individual award honors a manager of an APTA public transportation system who has made outstanding contributions to the public transportation industry.
- Outstanding Public Transportation Board Member Award
This individual award honors an individual serving on the governing board of an APTA public transportation system who has made outstanding contributions to the public transportation industry.
- Outstanding Public Transportation Business Member Award
This individual award honors an individual, employed by an APTA public transportation business member, who has made outstanding contributions to the public transportation industry.
- Distinguished Service Award (State & Local)
This individual award honors a public transportation decision maker; elected or appointed official; or private citizen who has contributed to the public transportation industry on the local level through policy, legislative initiative, and leadership.
- Hall of Fame Award
This special honor is reserved for individuals who have long and distinguished careers in the industry; who have made extraordinary contributions to public transportation; and who have actively participated in APTA activities.
- Innovation Award
This organization award honors an APTA public transportation system member who has demonstrated innovative concepts or effective problem-solving techniques not previously applied in the public transportation industry.
- Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Awards
This organization award honors an APTA public transportation system member who has demonstrated achievement in efficiency and effectiveness. Awards are granted to systems in three categories based on annual ridership.
