 Business Data Analyst

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assists with developing, implementing, and evaluating data-driven campaigns for APTA's membership programs and services, with a focus on retention, recruitment, and other initiatives that advance member engagement and satisfaction;
  • In collaboration with the Membership team, reinforces quality control and data integrity of all member, prospect, speaker, donor, and other stakeholder information in the database through accurate data entry and correction through proactive monitoring and maintenance of data standards;
  • Prepares member information from database to develop annual thank you acknowledgements and questionnaires to members at specific points in their membership history as well as perform other proactive stewardship activities;
  • Maintains an excellent working knowledge of membership database to maintain member records; acts as a resource to APTA staff on understanding member records, including how to interpret this information in a general, accurate manner; enters and maintains prospect data, recording pertinent company and staff referral information, etc.;
  • In collaboration with the Membership team, maintains a strong foundation of knowledge of the APTA committee structure to be able to maintain accurate records of all members and their current and historical committee relationships in APTA records; monitor APTA records to ensure that committee participants work for APTA member organizations;
  • Leads the data architecture design, services weighting methodology and reviews process for a new member engagement scoring system;
  • Under the direction of the management team, develops the strategy for a comprehensive, integrated approach to data management. Identifies metrics, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and business questions that can be answered with data;
  • Partners with department managers in the creation of dashboards/reports to measure effectiveness and provides insight to organizational business activities and member engagement. Performs data collection from multiple sources to create dashboards, reports, pivot tables, charts, and graphs; works closely with IT team to ensure that existing queries deliver requested data accurately and to develop new queries;
  • Identifies new data information sources and integrates them into business data analysis reports as applicable;
  • In coordination with the IT and Membership teams along with the Communications & Marketing department, maintains and promotes an APTA-wide, consistent methodology for analytics deployment; assists with the continual improvement of the APTA website; helps develop other data-driven association tools and strategies;
  • Partners with the functional business owners to coordinate and develop key management reports and tools to support operational and analytical requirements including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);
  • In coordination with the IT and Membership teams, assists with testing as needed for AMS system upgrades and report development;
  • In coordination with the Membership team, trains personnel to increase analytic and reporting capabilities;
  • Assists the Membership team and Finance & Administration department with the annual invoice renewal process;
  • Assists the Membership team with organizing and maintaining complete and up-to-date membership files;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MEASURES OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Degree to which the organization further advances a data driven process culture and uses reports and dashboards developed for strategic planning, business planning, and member engagement;
  • Development of member engagement scoring system to streamline and automate annual Member Value Statements;
  • Collaborative approach to advance APTA's digitalization efforts including data mining and analysis of website, smartphone app and other sources;
  • Research and implementation of association industry data analysis best practices;
  • Excellent communication with other staff in the developing and use of data reports and overall data quality assurance processes;
  • The efficient handling of all correspondence and requests in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Demonstration of a collegial and responsive attitude to staff and members when responding to inquiries and assignments;
  • Demonstration of exceptional customer service to members when assisting them with questions or concerns related to their membership engagement and records;
  • Extent to which other functions and duties are completed as assigned and in a timely manner;
  • While this position resides in the Member Services department, the outcome of deliverables and initiatives will be APTA-wide and support multiple business units to further member engagement strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in statistics, business, data analytics, data science, economics, or a related field with 2 to 3 years' work experience in data analysis, research or operational performance. In lieu of minimum work experience requirement, depth of experience in association data management, economics or statistical analysis may be considered. Position requires excellent interpersonal skills, including professionalism, an ability to work independently and in a team setting. Must have an efficient, organized work style and an ability to prioritize quickly and confidently, while managing multiple deadlines. Strong proficiency in Microsoft office is required, with advanced Excel skills. Additional experience with association databases such as netForum is a plus. Must demonstrate strong customer service orientation to meet the needs of key internal stakeholders.
