What is the Transit IT database?

The Transit Information Technology Database gathers information about IT applications from transit agencies, vendors and other transit-related businesses. The IT Database then allows members to dynamically query the database and view current, relevant information for transit agencies and vendors.

The queries can be tailored to answer specific questions. For example, a user will be able to see what maintenance systems are used, the level of IT budget, or the number of technical staff used at agencies with more than 500 buses.

Unlike past surveys, this is an ongoing tool that each member can update as changes occur in their profile.

Through the use of this tool, each member will be able to see its relative standing in the industry to develop a clearer IT vision. This tool can also be used to:

  • Elevate the "IT Debate" to a higher plane centered on appropriate staffing and funding for the desired IT services
  • Increase IT effectiveness and efficiency to levels more consistent with "best practices" in use in private industry
  • Adjust the expectations or IT services to more reasonable levels for the staff and budget available
  • Provide a valuable tool for IT to use as both a technical support tool as well as a procurement tool
