- APTA Standard for Vintage / Heritage Trolley Vehicle Equipment
On June 20, 2005, APTA released its first vehicle standard for Vintage / Heritage trolleys. This standard prescribes minimum requirements for equipping Vintage / Heritage Trolley vehicles for operation on urban Vintage Trolley and other transit systems. This standard is based on the Historical Streetcar section of the California Public Utilities Commission General Order 143B, with many additional criteria added in order to create a more comprehensive standard.
The purpose of an APTA Rail Transit Safety Standard is to ensure that each rail transit system achieves a high level of safety for passengers, employees and the public. APTA Rail Transit Safety Standards represent an industry consensus of acceptable safety practices that should be used by a rail transit system. Although this Standard is voluntary, APTA expects rail transit systems to adopt and implement provisions of the Standard within a reasonable time from the date of release of this standard, usually within two years.
