APTA Research and Technology Committee

Welcome to APTA's Research and Technology programs. Within these pages you will be able to find out about research and technology development activities and make contact with an individual committee or working group.

The Research and Technology work of APTA is performed  by volunteers. Recognizing the reality of the transit industry's limited travel budgets, we have turned to communications technologies to facilitate 'virtual meetings' of members.

We create individual web pages for each group which allows the APTA membership to view the objectives of R&T activities and to register interest in participating in any of the groups.  The web pages provide a means for electronic communication directly with a particular group member via the "e-mail" button, which allow group members and other interested APTA members to participate in day-to-day workings of the APTA committees and R&T task forces.

Why are we working electronically?

Not just because it's faster, more informative, and much less costly. Working 'virtually' allows us to provide an 'umbrella' for the promotion of research, the sharing of findings, and the providing of electronic assistance to facilitate research activities. Doing so presumes that APTA members engaged in research and technological development programs will strongly promote the use of advancing technologies to facilitate  their work and reduce costs/time frames. At all times, members will be encouraged to seek ways to use the APTA Research and Technology pages to serve as a 'driver' for introducing productive use of technology to agencies and committee members.
