The Business Member Board of Governors is responsible for directing and establishing activities for APTA's Business Members and developing policy recommendations to APTA's Executive Committee and Board of Directors which represent the interests of all Business Members.
Their objectives include encouragement of greater Business Member participation in APTA; development of better communication between governmental bodies and APTA Business Members; and providing APTA with continuing support in its efforts to represent the public transit industry.
The BMBG meets three times per year in conjunction with major APTA meetings and also holds a three-day annual business meeting in January to set its direction for the year. The meetings at the Bus & Paratransit Conference and the Rail Conference alternate every year.
BMBG meetings are open to all APTA business members and their attendance and participation is welcome and appreciated. The agenda for the meetings varies but is generally focused on issues about doing business in the transit industry and APTA programs that support private sector involvement in the industry.
Important components of the BMBG program are support for APTA’s transit advocacy and workforce development initiatives and networking and other activities that assist business members in identifying potential new business opportunities and potential new business partners. Through the business member activity fund, business members have provided the industry with a number of important publications that highlight the important benefits of investments in public transportation.
The following committees of the BMBG are open to any APTA member:
The BMBG committees are open to all APTA members, and business members are encouraged to participate in the committee meetings. Committee meetings are generally held during APTA's major meetings and conferences.
