Spring 2003 Local Coalition Grant Recipients

Campaign to Build Illinois Transit (Chicago, IL)

To hold 2 final roundtables and create, produce, and distribute a statewide report.

Chicagoland Transportation and Air Quality Commission (Illinois)

To focus on mobilizing suburban constituencies that have already identified transit as their number one priority.

Citizens for Modern Transit (St. Louis, MO)

To target members of the St. Louis area congressional delegation and work with churches to represent a unified front in the region.

Citizens for Transit Coalition (Birmingham, AL)

To expand coalition membership by advertising meetings in newspapers and by other means.

Friends of Transit (Phoenix, AZ)

To produce a weekly TV show that will create community awareness and mobilize residents.

Idaho Coalition for Transportation Choices (Boise, ID)

To conduct grassroots advocacy in conjunction with Idaho's congressional delegation.

Mobility 21 Coalition (Los Angeles, CA)

To conduct advocacy efforts in Sacramento and DC, drafting regular action alerts, e-mails, newsletters to coalition members and elected officials.

Metro (Houston, TX)

To hire a part-time community organizer to conduct community meetings to organize a region-wide transit coalition.

Montgomery Transportation Coalition (Montgomery, AL)

To conduct grassroots advocacy in conjunction with Alabama's congressional delegation.

North Carolina Public Transportation Association (Raleigh, NC)

To support two regional state meetings to increase visibility and educate elected officials and business leaders on why transit is important to the state.

Oklahoma Transportation Options (Oklahoma City, OK)

To conduct grassroots advocacy by communicating the importance of federal transit funds to Oklahoma's congressional delegation.

Pennsylvanians for Transportation Solutions (Oreland, PA)

To build a diverse broad-based statewide coalition to pursue additional state and federal funding.

Transportation Riders United (Detroit, MI)

To produce a professional-looking quarterly newsletter to address TEA 21 reauthorization.
