$65 million for Public Transportation Security

As provided by the FY 2003 Emergency Wartime Supplemental Appropriations bill, H.R. 1559, the Department of Homeland Security has provided $65 million for transit security at the 20 largest transit agencies based on ridership. To receive funding recipients must submit grant applications to the Department of Homeland Security. Eligible activities include: installation of physical barricades; area monitoring systems such as video surveillance, motion detectors, thermal/IR imagery and chemical/radiological material detection systems, integrated communications systems; and prevention planning, training and exercises. The following are the amount of the earmarks for the 20 transit authorities:
