Bridging the Gap: The Next Generation

Continuing APTA’s mission of encouraging student involvement in APTA’s conferences and meetings, EXPO 2011 offers a unique opportunity for students to network and interact with a variety of professionals within the industry. This year’s EXPO features “Expo High School,” an event sponsored by AECOM and Veolia Transportation. ACE Mentor Program of America has partnered with APTA, AECOM, and Junior Achievement on the student outreach initiative, “Careers with a Purpose,” which is targeted toward 75 New Orleans-area students who will learn the importance of seeking careers that help them realize their life potential. This special activity is a unique chance to promote careers in public transportation and engineering.

Student Day - EXPO 2011

On Wednesday, October 5, APTA opens its EXPO doors to welcome students from New Orleans area community colleges, technical schools, 4-year colleges, and universities to get a firsthand introduction to public transportation. The program includes a breakfast meeting and briefing with APTA members and staff, followed by a tour of the EXPO’s premier showcase of technology, products, and services. APTA members will serve as both industry presenters and as EXPO tour guides as they lead small groups of students through the Exhibit Hall

These youth outreach initiatives are in conjunction with the APTA Blue Ribbon Panel on Workforce Development, and are an added benefit to members to network, market, and recruit a new generation interested public transportation careers.
