Subject:      January 2012 BMBG Meeting

I am pleased to announce that APTA’s business member board of governors’ (BMBG) annual business meeting/retreat will be held January 11 – 14, 2012 at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort in Indian Wells (Palm Springs), California. I want to welcome and invite all APTA business members to participate in the meeting this year. We are particularly counting on the attendance and active participation of the business members on the board of governors and the APTA Board of Directors at this meeting.

As we have done in the last several years, much of our agenda will focus on the status of transit issues in Washington, as well as how business members can help advance the transit agenda on the national and local levels.

Gary Thomas, APTA’s new chair and President/Executive Director of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and APTA’s new President/CEO Michael Melaniphy will be joining us in Palm Springs. I am also looking forward to including several other public sector CEOs on our agenda.

The BMBG held its January 2008 meeting at this location and I am confident that we will enjoy ourselves there once again. Our business member committee meetings will be held on Wednesday, January 11 and the BMBG meeting on Thursday and Friday. Frank DiGiacomo is arranging a golf tournament for Friday afternoon and you will also find great spa facilities, a fitness center and tennis courts available at the resort.

APTA staff estimates that the cost of this year’s meeting will be $700 for members and $500 for guests, which you will be billed for after the meeting is over. This amount includes hospitality event costs and dinner on Thursday and Friday for all attendees, as well as breakfast for members on both Thursday and Friday and lunch on Thursday. An additional cost for box lunches on Friday will be charged for those who will be playing golf.

This year we will be making hotel reservations directly with the hotel and it can be done online (register at the Hyatt Grand Champion Resort). Our room rate at the hotel is $179 a night. In light of the large turnout we had in Naples last year and the fact that January 16, the Monday after our meeting, is the Martin Luther King holiday, I urge you to make your reservations now! The deadline for reservations in the APTA block is December 10, 2011, and after that date we can not guarantee that your reservations can be accommodated. While we always have an extensive agenda for the January meeting, the reason we meet is to address the critical issues affecting our industry. Our January meeting has always been a great opportunity for APTA business members to network and learn from each other, as well as focus on the leadership activities that APTA provides to the industry. I look forward to seeing you in January, and to your active participation in our meeting.
