The roadeo takes place on Sunday, May 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Long Beach Arena Parking Lot, 400 E. Shoreline Drive, Long Beach, CA.
The Arena Parking Lot is within walking distance of the Renaissance and Westin Hotels. Long Beach Transit will provide limited shuttle service from the Hilton, Renaissance, and Westin Hotels to the site. On Sunday, May 6, the service begins at 7:30 a.m. for spectators. Bus operators and mechanics from transit systems across North America participate in separate competitions, which showcase their skills in safe driving and vehicle maintenance. The Operator Competition includes events such as judgment stops, turning, and clearing obstacles. The Mechanic Competition requires skills in the identification of defects in engine, transmission, brake, and HVAC modules. The pre-trip inspection for operators and multiplex troubleshooting for mechanics are incorporated as scored events. More information is available on the International Bus Roadeo section of APTA's website.
Customer Service Challenge
For the sixth year, the Customer Service Challenge joins the traditional Operator and Mechanic Competitions. The event, scheduled on Monday, May 7, from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m., allows bus operators to test their customer service skills in some distinctive customer interface scenarios.
