General Information

Bus operators and mechanics from transit systems across North America participate in separate competitions, which showcase their skills in safe driving and vehicle maintenance. The Operator Competition includes events such as judgment stops, turning, and clearing obstacles. The Mechanic Competition requires skills in the identification of defects in engine, transmission, brake, and HVAC modules. The pre-trip inspection for operators and multiplex troubleshooting for mechanics are incorporated as scored events. More information is available on the International Bus Roadeo section of APTA's website.

Roadeo Training Workshops/Conference Sessions

Not only are all the traditional conference sessions and activities open to the roadeo participants, but there are six training workshops scheduled exclusively for roadeo contestants. The workshop topics are: Pedestrian Awareness, Operator Fatigue Awareness, Operator Assault Prevention, Vapor Bus Door Systems, MCI SmartWave, and and I/O Controls Multiplex Control Systems and Ladder Logic.

Customer Service Challenge

For the seventh year, the Customer Service Challenge joins the traditional Operator and Mechanic Competitions. The event, scheduled on Monday, May 6, from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m., allows bus operators to test their customer service skills in some distinctive customer interface scenarios.
