A Multimodal Tour of the Rose City
Optional Pre-workshop Technical Tour
Sunday, August 14th
The American Public Transportation Association has scheduled its annual Multimodal Operations Planning Workshop in Seattle on Monday, August 15 through Wednesday, August 17, 2011. In keeping with over a decade of tradition, a multimodal technical tour of Portland is being offered before the workshop on Sunday, August 14.
About the Tour
Portland has become as synonymous with “livability” based in part on the unsurpassed high standard the City sets for integrating transit with the communities it serves.
The Multimodal Tour of the Rose City offers a unique opportunity for transport professionals to experience from a passenger's perspective the diverse conbination of bus, streetcar, light rail and commuter rail and aerial tram services operated by the Tri-County Metropolitan Transit District (Tri-Met), Portland Streetcar, Inc., and Portland Aerial Tram in partnership with the City of Portland and Portland Western Railroad.
Along the way, we will be met by representatives of each of the operating agencies to answer questions and share valuable "lessons learned" of how such a harmonios blending of urban form and function was achieved as well as maintained on a daily basis. Behind-the-scenes shop tours are planned for the Portland Streetcar, Portland Aerial Tram, and the Westside Express Service commuter rail.
En route to Seattle, we will also experience the Amtrak Cascade service on Train #508 operating Talgo tilt-trains in a partnership with the Oregon and Washington State Departments of Transportation. View the flyer for a full itinerary.
