 Call for Presentations

We cordially invite you to submit a proposal to be considered for presentation at APTA’s 10th Annual Sustainability and Public Transportation Workshop. Our host will be the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Agency, with a focus on the unique multimodal connections in the Boston region, sustainability and mobility plans for multi-regional entities, including large institutions, and innovations in green design and mobility.

Session Topics

We seek abstracts for presentations on innovative trends and practices in sustainability in the public transportation industry. We especially encourage presentations around the aforementioned key themes of innovation and organizational planning. With the increased emphasis on outcome-based approaches in MAP-21, we also encourage measuring performance and setting targets and goals, as well as an emphasis on energy efficiency. Topic areas for presentations will include:

  1. Sustainable Planning, Policy and Community Development – Abstracts should focus on achieving energy-efficient mobility, connectivity, and accessibility, as well as sustainable practices in transportation planning and energy efficient development patterns. Abstracts on performance standards for MPO long-range regional transportation plans are welcome.
  2. Innovation in Green Design, Materials, and Infrastructure – Abstracts should focus on integrating sustainability in construction projects and transit corridors, mitigating environmental impacts and decreasing life cycle costs.
  3. Sustainable Operations – Abstracts should focus on energy efficient, environmentally sound, and socially responsive practices in transit operations and maintenance, including the role of new technologies and energy-efficient fleets.
  4. Sustainable Business Practices – Abstracts should focus on manufacturing, procurement, project management, and sustainable organizations, including green offices; workforce engagement; performance metrics for projects, corridors and agencies; as well as sustainability reporting, including “how-to’s”, lessons learned, and benefits.

If you have topic ideas outside these areas that you would like to have considered, please don’t hesitate to propose them.
