Board Support Employee Development Workshop Program – Last updated  August 1, 2013, adding PowerPoint presentation links

Staff members at APTA–member transit systems who support boards of directors or commissioners are welcome to register for this workshop. All sessions and most events will be held at the Hyatt Regency Austin, 208 Barton Springs Road, Austin, Texas 78704.

NEW!  The Education Department of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) has approved APTA's 2013 Transit Board Members Seminar and Board Support Employee Development Workshop for 1 Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) Experience point or 1 Master Muncipal Clerk (MMC) Professional and Social Contributions point per day.

For members arriving on Friday, there will be a get-together beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at Threadgill's, 301 W. Riverside Drive, Austin - across from the hotel.

Ways to assess the situation and focus on everyone's needs to achieve the best outcome

Join the discussion and contribute your ideas in this leadership development workshop. How do leaders best discuss the issues, ask the right questions, and build strong relationships? Learn more about your individual approach and gain powerful perspectives. Improve the way you handle conflict and create resolutions to move forward. Participate in this interactive workshop to lead conflict resolution with less stress and more time spent on the successful outcomes. You will have the opportunity to practice recognizing others' motivations during role playing set within a safe, supportive training environment.

Developing the Mind of a Leader: A Process for Growing Through Every Challenge

Steps to recognize one's situation, make choices, take action, and evaluate

Once we begin the process of assessing a challenge, the steps go from recognizing and being honest with ourselves about the situation; brainstorming the possibilities; and choosing a path. In thiscontinuum, it's the importance of getting started, and following through with a rational evaluation once we're on the other side. This module will focus on leadership and growth during all types of experiences. Participants will receive information and tools that are immediately actionable in any situation.

The skills of top negotiators
