APTA CEO’s Message on Hurricane Harvey Affecting Public Transit Systems

August 28, 2017

Dear APTA member,

APTA has reached out to public transit systems in Texas as Hurricane Harvey wreaks havoc and destruction. We have offered the industry’s support and assistance in their recovery efforts.

I have contacted our transit system leadership in Austin, Corpus Christi, Houston, Fort Bend County, Port Arthur, and San Antonio. We also reached out to our partners at the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Transit Association, and South West Area Transit Association.

The current information is that Metro in Houston, Corpus Christi RTA, Fort Bend County Transit, and Port Arthur Transit have suspended service.  Decisions on when to resume service will be made after they can assess the conditions of their vehicles, facilities and infrastructure; the availability of staff; and the road and service environment.

Please keep them in your thoughts as they deal with this disastrous storm and work to provide for the safety of their employees and residents.

We will keep you informed of any recovery assistance that our industry can provide in the coming days and weeks.

Sincerely,

Richard A. White
