 Industry Leaders Converge In Washington -- APTA Legislative Conference Looks To The Future Of Public Transit 

 

More than 600 members of  the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) will convene in Washington, DC at the 2009 APTA Legislative Conference, March 8-11 to discuss a variety of topics including: changes in the New Administration and U.S. Congress; up-to-date details and information on the recently passed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act; and to participate in discussions on federal legislative initiatives involving climate change, high-speed and intercity passenger rail, and the FY 2010 Appropriations.  Participants will spend Tuesday and Wednesday visiting their congressional representatives, lobbying their transit initiatives to Capitol Hill.

The 2009 Legislative Conference will feature a line-up of esteemed legislative professionals including: Ray LaHood, secretary, U.S. Department of Transportation; U.S. Rep. James L. Oberstar (D-MN) chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-CT) chairman of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; U.S. Rep. John L. Mica (R-FL), ranking member, Committee on Ways and Means; U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) member Committee on Ways and Means; Patrick McCrory, Mayor of Charlotte, NC; John W. Hickenlooper, Mayor of Denver, CO.
