 American Public Transportation Association Hosts 2009 Annual Meeting in Orlando 

 

Special Sessions on High-Speed Rail and Sustainability Announced

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) will hold its Annual Meeting October 4-7, 2009 at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes in Orlando, FL. This premier industry event will attract more than 1,500 public transportation leaders from across North America. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, U.S. Representative Corrine Brown (D)-FL, and U.S. Representative John Mica (R)-FL will address attendees on Monday, October 5.

New this year is the Products and Services Showcase - - offering a first-hand look at products and services that are shaping the industry. The 2009 APTA Annual Meeting will focus on a number of topics affecting the public transportation industry. Increasingly tech-savvy customers are demanding increasingly tech-friendly services, and the transit industry cannot afford to fall behind. Representatives from various agencies discuss how they are keeping up with the trends.

The Vision and the Blueprint: High Speed Rail in the United States

At this session APTA welcomes the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) for a discussion on implementing the president’s vision of high speed rail in the United States, and its charge to develop a National Rail Plan. FRA Deputy Administrator Karen Rae will be joined by the primary rail-advocacy associations in the US describing their work in executing high-speed rail projects in support of ARRA.
