Contributing News and Articles to Passenger Transport

Passenger Transport strives to give readers timely and useful news and information on the events, ideas, and issues shaping public transportation. To do this, we depend on contributions from readers throughout the industry.

DEADLINES

Passenger Transport is published every Monday, except for the last week in August and the last week in December. To be considered for a specific edition, articles should be received at least 10 calendar days in advance of the Monday publication date. On fast-breaking, major news, please contact the Editorial Department as quickly as possible to arrange coverage. Deadlines for APTA Conference Editions and In Focus and other Special Editions are several weeks in advance.

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE MATERIAL

Passenger Transport receives contributions by e-mail, FAX, mail, or computer disk. Insofar as possible, we prefer contributions to be sent via e-mail as part of the e-mail message or as an attachment in Microsoft Word for Windows or WordPerfect.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON PHOTOGRAPHS: Passenger Transport encourages photographs (color or black-and-white) or electronic art to accompany contributions. Electronic art must be sent as either a TIF or JPG file with a minimum resolution of 300 dots per inch (dpi) in the size similar to how it would appear in Passenger Transport.

Submitted photographs become the property of the American Public Transportation Association and may be used for other association purposes. Photographs will be returned, if prior arrangements are made.

NEWS, FEATURE ARTICLES, PRESS RELEASES

News articles, feature material, and press releases from throughout the public transportation industry are welcomed by Passenger Transport. In addition to covering the news in public transportation, we also want to present the "why" and "how" behind the news - why something worked, and how others can apply the same ideas. We are constantly looking for innovative and practical solutions to challenges facing transit operators and businesses. We are especially interested in receiving articles that dig beneath the surface of the news, telling readers what's significant about a program or activity.

IN ADDITION TO WEEKLY COVERAGE OF THE LATEST PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION NEWS, SOME OF OUR REGULAR FEATURES INCLUDE:

Washington

Passenger Transport is unmatched by any other public transportation publication in its coverage of Congressional actions and debates and the activities of federal agencies affecting the industry.

State, Regional, National, International Departments

These are devoted to covering news of significance in each of these areas.

Opinion

Syndicated and guest columnists, opinion pieces from inside and outside the industry, reprints of editorials from publications around the country, and readers speaking out on pressing issues. Readers are invited to comment on federal, state, or local policies and actions; to share their views on current issues in transportation; and to offer an opinion on areas of public transportation in which they have a special interest. Please contact Editor Rhonda Goldberg to arrange.

People on the Move

A roundup of news about the people who are the public transportation industry - new hires, promotions, board appointments, and honors. (Note: In order to treat all contributions equally, material for the People on the Move column is used in the order received.) Please submit items to Senior Editor Susan Berlin.

Management Notebook

Share the lessons you've learned in operations and management. Contributions should be geared toward practical management experience that can be applied by others. Please contact Editor Rhonda Goldberg to discuss ideas.

Calendar

A once-a-month summary of upcoming transit conferences and meetings. Please submit information to Senior Editor Susan Berlin.

Industry Briefs

Capsules of important news and information from operators, businesses, and organizations in public transportation.
