Akron, OH, Voters Approve Sales Tax Hike for Transit

This Week in Passenger Transport

March 10, 2008

Voters in Summit County, OH, approved an additional one-quarter percent sales/use tax for Akron’s METRO Regional Transit Authority on March 4. The preliminary vote total shows 52 percent, or 80,960, in favor of the measure, with 48 percent, or 74,319, opposed.

The vote means that the dedicated sales tax will rise to 6.5 percent when the county begins collecting it in the summer. METRO will begin receiving the funds in October.
