Bill Promotes High-Speed Rail

This Week in Passenger Transport

March 24, 2008

U.S. Rep. John L. Mica (R-FL), ranking member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, introduced a bill March 14 aimed at promoting the development of high-speed rail corridor projects, beginning with the Northeast Corridor between Washington, DC, and New York City. The bill, H.R. 5644, was referred to the T&I Committee.

The bill proposes that U.S. DOT solicit proposals for development of high-speed passenger rail service in the corridor, to be followed by proposals for high-speed rail in other parts of the country. It has 23 co-sponsors, including both Republicans and Democrats.
