COASTER ‘Wrap’ Plus FREE Weekend for Military
North County Transit District (NCTD) honored veterans this past November with free rides for active and retired military, special discounts for family members and a full-car ‘ad wrap’ on the COASTER. In an effort to acknowledge the veteran and military community, NCTD allowed all active and retired military personnel, with valid identification to ride free of charge on all NCTD trains and buses from Friday, November 9 through Veteran’s Day, Monday, November 12. Family members accompanying the servicemen were also honored with half off regular, one-way fares over the long weekend.
NCTD also wrapped one of its COASTER cars with a vinyl graphic that salutes the veteran and military community. The special wrap was on the rails beginning November 9 and will stay on the tracks for an entire year. The local transit agency created the special moving billboard and weekend promotions as gestures of gratitude to the many members of the military in Oceanside and throughout the county. “I wholeheartedly endorse the district’s efforts to honor our military,” said NCTD Board Vice-Chair, Bill Horn, (San Diego County Supervisor, 5th District). “As a former Marine and a Vietnam veteran, I fully understand how meaningful it is to have the support and backing of the community. Through the free weekend and the train wrap, North County Transit is telling each and every member of the military in San Diego how much we appreciate their service and value their commitment.”
NCTD’s COASTER and SPRINTER trains and BREEZE buses are vital links between Camp Pendleton, North County and downtown San Diego. "We appreciate the generosity of the North County Transit District toward our service members and their families during this year's Veterans Day weekend," said Maj. Amy Punzel, spokesperson for Marine Corps Installations West- Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. "The mobile tribute to our veterans speaks highly of their dedication to our mission, their support to our troops and their unwavering patriotism."
Bombardier Transportation, a provider of rail cars and maintenance services to NCTD is a co- sponsor of the ad wrap. “As a retired member of the military, seeing any initiative that honors our veterans and backs the men and women who put themselves in harm’s way to uphold and protect this nation’s values is always appreciated and cannot be understated,” said Jack McGlynn, Bids and Proposals Specialist at Bombardier Transportation. “Speaking on behalf of the employees of Bombardier, we are pleased to be a part of the district’s efforts to honor our Armed Forces.” The North County Transit District is a public transportation agency providing 12 million passenger trips annually throughout North San Diego County and into downtown San Diego. NCTD's system includes BREEZE buses, COASTER commuter trains, SPRINTER light rail trains, and LIFT paratransit service. NCTD's mission is to deliver safe, convenient, reliable and user-friendly public transportation services.
