As you know, during the summer of 2006 we launched a new program sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and funded in part by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). In response to the transportation industry seeking to devise a viable means for transit systems to reach out in times of need, the Emergency Response & Preparedness Program (ERPP) was conceived. After unveiling this program to the industry and sending out follow-up letters, we received tremendous positive response and are ready to put the program into action.

This program was showcased at this year’s Bus & Paratransit Conference and again at the Rail Transit Conference in June. We plan to highlight the final product at the upcoming Annual Meeting in Charlotte, through a dedicated session on the concept of emergency response and preparedness and an information booth that will be located in the Charlotte Convention Center.

If you are not yet signed up for the program or have been thinking about joining this industry motivated initiative, please contact APTA’s Rachelle Jezbera at 202-496-4883 or email rjezbera@apta.com, or one of the other staff persons working towards finalizing this effort, Linda Grabis at 202-496-4879 (lgrabis@apta.com). They will be happy to send you information on the program and the necessary forms to sign up. In addition, we are still in need of additional inventory you can make available to help support this nationwide, mutual aid program. You are also invited to stop by the ERPP booth at the Annual Conference for answers to your questions or to indicate your interest in joining.

We are very excited about the advent of the ERPP and welcome your participation. Together we can help the industry face whatever crisis comes along.

Thanks for your support!
