UITP Reappoints Hans Rat to Second Term

The Executive Board of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) recently renewed the contract of Secretary General Hans Rat for a second five-year term.

He is a native of the Netherlands, where his long career in public transportation has included the introduction of integrated tickets. As UITP secretary general, he oversaw the recent move of UITPs offices from Brussels to Molenbeek.

"It is an exciting time in the worldwide expansion of this sector," Rat said, "and I am proud to be able to drive this forward, with the support of our membership, over the next few years." He noted that, "Using the combined knowledge of our members, we have been able to develop clear positions on issues of global importance, and we will build on this over the next few years to develop our international influence."
