The Paris regional transportation authority, Regie Autonome des Transports Parisiens,
has begun providing five new "velo bus" bicycle rental facilities on weekends
and holidays.
The bikes are available at a nominal rental fee on most days, but every third Saturday
they are free at mobile rental facilities on colorful, converted RATP buses. The bikes
provide Parisians and visitors alike an opportunity to explore the Paris region by
bicycle.
Last year, the RATP registered 42,000 bike rentals, making it the largest bike rental
facility in the Ile-de-France.
