Fall 2007: “Transit Workforce Development” (The application process for this mission is closed)
With Baby Boomers set to retire, a tight labor market, increasing technological demands across job functions, and growing diversity in the labor pool, transit systems across the U.S. are facing challenges in attracting, training, and maintaining an effective, cohesive workforce.
Thirteen transit professionals from across America have been chosen to take part in a 2-week study mission that will focus on innovative practices in workforce development. The mission team, led by Ron Barnes, SW Regional VP of Veolia Transportation and General Manager of Regional Public Transit Authority in Mesa, AZ, will visit transit organizations in Canada and Europe in November. Their objective is to learn how leaders outside the US are addressing critical challenges in the recruitment, retention, and training of skilled employees.
