Who is the sponsor of “Teening” Up for a Green World Youth Summit?
The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is a not-for-profit trade association based in Washington, DC, which represents more than 1,500 public transportation agencies and the suppliers who serve them. APTA is the leading force in advancing public transportation.
Who is eligible to attend the summit?
The “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit is open to all rising high school juniors and seniors under the age of 19 who are permanent residents of the United States or Canada.
How many students will be selected for the summit?
Up to 50 students will be selected to attend the “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit.
How do I apply? Can I apply online?
Interested students may apply to the “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit by fully completing the application located under the “application” tab of this web site and returning the application via mail.
Is there a deadline for applications?
All applications for the “Teening” up for a Greener World Youth Summit must be postmarked by midnight April 25, 2008.
How will applicants be selected?
The “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit Advisory Task Force will review all applications.
When will applicants be notified if they are selected?
Each applicant will be notified by mail before May 12, 2008 regarding the status of his/her application.
Are participants required to complete any work assignments prior to the summit?
Participants in the “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit must agree learn about local transit service in their community. The summit organizer (APTA) will assist participants with making contact with transit system(s) or other transit-related organization(s).
Costs
Is there a fee to attend the summit?
There is no tuition/registration fee to attend the “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit.
Am I responsible for my own transportation to and from the summit?
The “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit will provide transportation to Washington, DC for all participants residing outside the Washington, DC metropolitan area, either one round-trip economy airline ticket or Amtrak train ticket. All “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit participants will work with the summit’s official travel agency to coordinate air or train transportation to and from Washington, DC.
Am I responsible for my own housing?
The “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit will provide free housing in a Catholic University dormitory.
Am I responsible for my own meals?
The “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit will provide participants with three meals per day, plus snacks.
How much spending money will I need?
Participants may wish to bring a modest amount of money for incidental costs (i.e. souvenirs).
When do participants need to arrive?
All “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit participants need to arrive on Sunday, June 22, 2008. The summit will kick off that evening at 5 p.m.
When do participants depart?
All “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit must attend the entire summit which concludes on Wednesday, June 25.
Transportation
How will my travel be arranged?
All “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit participants will work with the summit’s official travel agency to coordinate air or train transportation to and from Washington, DC.
How will I get from the airport or train station to the event?
The “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit sponsor will provide ground transportation to and from all Washington, DC area airports and train station.
Will there be someone to meet me at the airport or train station?
All participants will be met by a “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit representative at the airports or train station upon their arrival in Washington, DC.
Will participants be given the summit staff contact information?
All participants will be given a contact number of a “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit representative, should the participant need to reach someone while traveling.
Lodging
Is lodging provided? Where?
The “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit will provide free housing at a Catholic University dormitory in Washington, DC.
May I stay at a different location?
All “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit participants are required to stay at the official housing facilities at Catholic University.
Will I get my own room?
Participants will share a university dorm room with up to possibly 4 other “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit participants. Participants will be housed in single-sex rooms. Roommates will be assigned randomly. Participants may not select their roommates.
Are there any accommodations available for my family members?
Only “Teening” Up for a Green World Youth Summit participants will be able to stay at Catholic University. Family members should visit The Washington, DC Convention & Tourism Corporation to find other accommodations.
Supervision
Who is responsible for the participants, will there be supervision at all times?
The “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit organizer (APTA) is responsible for and will provide supervision to the participants during their stay in Washington, DC.
Do participants need to be accompanied by an adult?
“Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit participants are not required to be accompanied by an adult/parent. Should a parent/guardian elect to come to Washington with the participant , parents/guardians must secure lodging and activities for themselves. The summit is not open to parents/guardians.
Sightseeing/Culture
Will I have the opportunity to sightsee while in Washington DC?
The “Teening” Up for a Greener World Youth Summit staff will provide guided tours, allowing participants adequate time to sightsee in the nation’s capitol.
