General Session: Going, Going, Green: The Future of Public Transportation
9 – 9:45 a.m.
The future of public transportation is as vast as it is exciting. This session is designed to give participants a look at what the key factors are effecting public transportation. Focusing on the environment, participants will learn what the future of public transportation is and how it will shape and benefit our communities and our lives.
Transit Oriented Development: The Big Picture for a Greener Future
10 - 11 a.m.
This session will look at the “Big Picture” of designing a livable community with public transportation as a key factor. Featured speakers will address the issues that are driving this increasingly popular trend such as combating traffic and pollution, livable community design, and the components and strategies that have made transit oriented development such a success across the nation.
Lunch on Campus
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA)
12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
This session/tour will feature key WMATA staff who will discuss such topics as transportation planning for the future, healthy benefits public transportation has on everyday life, environmental benefits of public transportation, and careers in public transportation. The group will also tour various facilities of one of the nation’s largest public transportation agencies.
Ride the System
3:30 - 5 p.m.
Chaperoned, participants will ride the Washington, DC metro system. Experience first hand how exciting riding public transportation can be and visit some awesome examples of how green, livable communities are flourishing around the Washington, DC area.

Student Panel Discussion: Public Transportation – It’s More Than a Career!
9 – 9:45 a.m.
Hear from local university students who are pursuing careers in public transportation. Speakers will discuss how public transportation has impacted their lives and why they have chosen to pursue public transportation as a career.
How Does It All Get Done? Public Policy, Public Transportation, and the Environment
10-11 a.m.
This session will look at the relationship between public policy, public transportation and the environment featuring key industry speakers. Attendees will hear how public policy is created and why; how you can effectively shape public policy in your community to focus on environmental issues and its benefits, and learn how the public, media, lobbyists, associations and corporations shape current and future policy.
Lunch on Campus
A Day on Capitol Hill
12:30 – 3:30 p.m.
This session will feature key congressional staff who will address current public transportation policy. You will also hear what steps the U.S. Congress is taking to relieve the increase of congestion through multi model solutions, the critical role public transportation plays in national and global economies, and how alternative transportation options are helping the global environment. This session will include a tour of the U.S. Capitol.
Closing Session/Summit Overview
4 - 5 p.m.
Student Panel Discussion
Join your fellow attendees to discuss summit highlights and learning experiences during your time in Washington, DC. This is an opportunity for you to exchange your thoughts and ideas with the group on how your perception of public transportation has changed and what you will do back in your community to promote public transportation and its benefits.

Capitol Bowling at Lucky Strikes Lanes
6:30-9:30 p.m.
Join us as we close the 2008 Teen Summit with an evening of bowling in Washington, DC’s historic Chinatown.
