RTA Family Fun Day Roadeo

Target Audience: After a more than 20 year hiatus, the Greater Dayton RTA brought back the Roadeo. The resurrection of the Roadeo was an effort to highlight the skills of our drivers and mechanics, while celebrating our employees and improving morale. The RTA formed a committee, who enlisted the help of COTA, who holds an annual roadeo, to pull off the big event. The event was open to ALL RTA employees. We had drivers, mechanics and admin compete in a fixed-route and paratransit competition.

Strategy Objective:The objective of the Roadeo was to improve morale across the RTA and show off the hard work of our drivers. The event was well attended and well received. With a family fun day in addition to the roadeo portion of the event, there was fun for everyone. It was so great to see family members and coworkers cheering on their loved ones. This was the first time RTA has held a roadeo in more than 20 years. To pull off this task we put together a committee. The committee even came up with an obstacle course for paratransit drivers to participate in, going the extra mile to show our employee appreciation.

Situation Challenge: The RTA wanted to do an event to celebrate what we do and the importance of public transit. A roadeo is truly the best way to highlight the skills it takes to be a driver. The celebration included the obstacle course as well as a family fun day with face painters, trike race, balloon twister, DJ, food trucks and more for the entire family.

Results Impact: This event resulted in positive reviews by RTA staff.

Why Submit: To pull off this event, RTA sought the help of area city leaders and law enforcement to be our judges. This helped us build connections in the community while also showing off our skills and what we do. The event was well received by our employees, who had a blast competing. Please check out the videos to get a glipse at all the fun. In addition to the fixed route obstacle course, our team also created a paratransit obstacle course to give our paratransit drivers the opportunity to show off their skills. This was a fun event for employees and their family members and an amazing opportunity to highlight their skills.
