Congress Passes Five Day Continuing Resolution

On Friday, the House of Representatives passed a five day Continuing Resolution (CR) by voice vote.  This gives Congress until midnight on December 16 to pass their year-long appropriations package.  On the previous day, the Senate also passed the same legislation by voice vote.  The White House indicated that the President would sign a short-term of several days only to allow for time to work out minor details in what will eventually be the Omnibus Appropriations package to fund government programs, including the Department of Transportation, in Fiscal Year 2016.  This, as well as a tax extenders package, are among the most pressing issues that will need to be dealt with before Congress leaves for their Winter Recess on December 18.  For more information on APTA-supported tax extenders, please visit our previous Legislative/Action Alert.

The House will convene on January 5, 2016 to begin the second session of the 114th Congress.  The Senate will join them for the first time of the second session the following week.  For more information on the second session schedule, please see the Senate calendar and the House of Representative calendar.
