The American Public Transportation Association, the leader in public transportation education and networking, is pleased to announce its 2014 conference, seminar, and workshop schedule.

These events have been developed to improve the knowledge and skill set (professional and technical) of transit professionals at all levels of their careers. These meetings also serve as an unparalleled marketing tool for public transportation manufacturers and suppliers, bringing buyers and sellers face-to-face.

  • Business Member Board of Governors Annual Business Meeting

  • Transit CEOs Seminar

  • Legislative Conference
    March 9-11

    Educates members on important federal legislation and policy initiatives; provides members with opportunity to shape future industry positions and Federal transportation policy; provides direction on the industry’s legislative strategy and advocacy efforts with the U.S.  Congress and Administration; offers sessions with key members of Congress, Hill staff, Administration officials, and Washington opinion makers.

  • Revenue Management Summit  (formerly Fare Collection Workshop)
    March 16-19

    The Revenue Management Summit, formerly the Fare Collections Workshop, caters to all those involved in the collection of transit fares for both small operators and large agencies, novice participants, seasoned veterans, engineers, operations personnel, revenue management personnel, policy staff and ultimate decision-makers. The program features innovations and updates in the areas of revenue management policy, fare systems (technology, management and maintenance), system procurement, implementation, theft and fraud.

  • ITS Transit Best Practices Workshop
    March 20-21

    APTA, in conjunction with ITS America and with support from USDOT, is pleased to announce the next ITS Transit Best Practices Workshop. The objective of the workshop is to create a forum that brings together industry leaders among the transit systems using Transit ITS, transit systems exploring innovative enhancements for their current / future systems, as well as the consultants and suppliers involved in the deployment of Transit ITS.

  • International Bus Roadeo
    May 2-6
    Kansas City Marriott Downtown and Kansas City Convention Center | Kansas City, MO

    The International Bus Roadeo is a unique learning opportunity for operators and maintenance teams to experience transit agency professionals up close and personal. The Roadeo is more than a competition of driving skills and maintenance disciplines; it is a training and networking opportunity for all attendees.   • Bus & Paratransit Conference
    May 4-7
    Kansas City Marriott Downtown and Kansas City Convention Center | Kansas City, MO

    This educational program covers technological breakthroughs; today’s operations and maintenance environment; safety, security, and emergency preparedness; planning, sustainability, and finance; mobility management and accessibility; capital programs; bus rapid transit (BRT); and procurement; management, policy, and workforce development. The conference includes over 40 educational sessions, National Transit Institute training, and bus operators and mechanics technical workshops. Special events include a bus display and exhibitor showcase featuring the latest bus and paratransit vehicles, products, and services.

Includes sessions on reducing passenger violence and dangerous acts, review of the insurance market, ADA/legal updates, mitigating pedestrian accidents, dissecting primary and excess liability insurance policies, practical elements of mediating a lawsuit, realizing tangible savings from vehicle video systems, and a risk management round table. This in-depth, hands-on and interactive workshop explores new and nontraditional funding and financing tools for public transportation agencies, including capturing the value of transit, revenue strategies, and partnering with the public, as well as nonprofit and private sector "beneficiary pays" models.   • Transit Board Members & Board Support Seminar 
    July 19-22
    The Westin Cleveland Downtown | Cleveland, OH

    Policymakers and staff join the professional development sessions focusing on best practices in governance and creating policy for public transportation systems. The educational content includes succession planning, regional, and legislative issues, as well as fiduciary responsibilities, advocacy, safety, mobility management, funding, and financing. A separate leadership development track is offered for members who support transit boards of directors/commissioners.

  • Sustainability & Public Transportation Workshop
    August 3-5

    Features cutting-edge speakers and breakout groups presenting environmental/energy efficient, economically sound, and socially responsible developments and practices to advance public transportation’s role in sustainability.

  • Multimodal Operations Planning Workshop
    August 11-13
    Intercontinental Hotel | Chicago, IL

    This workshop is for schedulers, planners, and personnel involved in the operation of all transit systems. Sessions will provide planners and schedulers with the latest in scheduling, facilities planning, technological advances, designing routes, and bus rapid transit. Technical tours of the Chicago area will offer insight into connecting the various modes of transportation used throughout the city. This workshop is dedicated to promoting and advancing the work of America’s professional public transportation planners and schedulers.   • State Public Transportation Partnerships Conference
    (A cooperative effort among APTA, AASHTO, and CTAA)
    August 13-15
    Hyatt Regency at Penn’s Landing | Philadelphia, PA

This multi-host conference emphasizes best practices and programs of state public transit associations and state DOTs, as well as federal, state, and local partnerships for public transportation.

  • Annual Meeting & EXPO 
    October 12-15

    APTA's Annual Meeting is the flagship event for public transportation professionals to engage in educational sessions, forums, tours, and network with peers. This year's annual meeting is held in conjunction with EXPO 2014. Taking place triennially, EXPO is the industry's premier trade show, where more than 15,000 professionals from around the world come together to connect, share, and discover the most innovative public transportation solutions. EXPO presents the world's largest collection on manufacturers, suppliers, and consultants all under one roof.

TranITech features multiple sessions covering all aspects of transit technology and work in conjunction with the exhibits at EXPO to provide a comprehensive overview of transit technology for today and tomorrow. Sessions will range from electronic payment systems to transit ITS applications and advanced railway technology. TranITech attendees will have full access to the Welcoming Reception on Sunday, October 12, and EXPO 2014 exhibits on Monday, October 13 through Wednesday, October 15.
