APTA invites you to join a select group of APTA and CUTA members who will take part in a study mission focusing on innovative funding and financing strategies in London, Stockholm and Munich, April 19–24. The itinerary builds upon the presentations made at the June 2014 APTA/CUTA Practicum on Funding and Financing in Montreal.
This study mission is designed to give participants an opportunity to explore funding and financing strategies in three countries that have continued to stay on the cutting edge of public transportation innovations. The participants in the mission will meet in London on April 19 and conclude their program in Munich on April 24th.
The mission will start with an introduction of Transport for London’s funding and governance model. A specific focus will be on London’s Cross Rail project, one of the most significant infrastructure projects completed in recent history in the UK. Next the group will travel to Stockholm to look at the power of its funding and financing mechanisms, including the congestion pricing scheme, to meet the city’s mobility needs. The mission will continue on to Munich to view how its transit oriented land use has led to a solid long term funding structure.
This study mission is a unique cultural and learning opportunity that promotes information sharing, networking and education for participating members. The mission will consist of site visits, stakeholder discussions and several debriefing sessions. Due to the short length of the study mission, the schedule will be very full and participants are encouraged not to schedule personal activities during the course of the week.
