The Santa Monica Institute is an academy run by the City of Santa Monica which provides training to both frontline employees and administrative staff and managers. The program also includes a pre-supervisory academy that teaches future supervisors the people skills they will need in their jobs. The Institute is run by the city as a whole, and includes training for many other departments besides Big Blue Bus and transportation. However, Big Blue Bus is still able to send every staff employee and nearly 100 frontline employees to the Institute training programs each year. These programs are ten weeks long and include both courses that are required for regulatory compliance and optional professional development courses.
