Diversity of people, minds and thought unlocks great potential for the transportation industry. Breaking down barriers, diversity creates an environment of inclusion and ceaseless knowledge sharing among communities, organizations, and individuals. The objective of this session is to explore and celebrate diversity through its many forms, voices, and audiences. We will begin to examine diversity as a significant cultural value, rather than a set of baseline numbers. Our conversations and stories expand the definition of diversity as we look into a range of topics, including careers and opportunities, serving underrepresented populations, and organizational transformations.
Mr. Doran J. Barnes, APTA Chair; Executive Director, Foothill Transit, West Covina, California
Doran Barnes oversees Foothill Transit's 38-route system, manages the private contractors who operate and maintain the agency’s 300 buses, and leads the delivery of service to over 15 million customers annually. Doran also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Access Services, the regional paratransit operator for all of Los Angeles County. Doran began his transit career as a coach operator at Unitrans, the transit system at the University of California-Davis. In addition, Doran is serving as the current Chair of the American Public Transportation Association.

Ms. Lydia C. Grose, Director, Engineering and Design Civil Engineering, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA); immediate past Chair, APTA Human Resources Committee
Lydia C. Grose is the Director of Engineering and Design - Civil Engineering Department, within the Engineering, Maintenance, and Construction (EM&C) Division of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). She serves as Project Liaison to outside government agencies with construction projects impacting SEPTA operations as well as Authority initiated projects requiring municipal review and support. With 30 years' experience in the engineering field, Ms. Grose has established herself as an individual with diverse expertise and knowledge in the areas of civil engineering, project management, hands-on construction inspection, and field coordination with maintenance and technical staff.
Mr. Todd Macalady, Director, Mountain West Region Tribal Technical Assistance Program
Todd Macalady (Sault Saint Marie Chippewa) serves as the Mountain West Region TTAP Director and conducts trainings in construction project management for the Tribal Technical Assistance Program in Gilbert, CO and Fairbanks, AK. Mr. Macalady also serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Tribal Management Program where his focus within the Tribal Management program is the development and instruction on project management, and the associated disciplines within all construction.
Ms. Leticia Barajas, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Workforce, Los Angeles Trade Technical College
Leticia Barajas is the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development at Los Angeles Trade- Technical College (LATTC). Ms. Barajas supervises the Deans of all academic areas and provides leadership for Pathway to Academic, Career and Transfer Success Model, and LATTC’s innovative student success initiative. Previously, Ms. Barajas has served for seven years as Dean of Academic Affairs at LATTC where she was the supervising administrator for Construction, Design and Manufacturing, Transportation, Allied Health and Continuing Education departments. As Dean, she developed innovative workforce education programs in allied health, utilities and construction, transportation, manufacturing and green industries. In addition, as founder of the Bridges to Success Center, Ms. Barajas launched LATTC’s K-12 partnerships with over thirty middle and high schools that allow K-12 students participate in cross- curricular projects, service-learning core and enriched classes, and workforce readiness.
Mr. Grailing Jones, Development Director, Schneider Employment Network
Grailing Jones is the Schneider Employment Network Development Director. His focus is networking with diverse groups, specifically military, churches, and workforce investment boards that are involved in recruiting a new wave of workers for the transportation industry. With recent commercial truck improvements and career opportunities, Mr. Jones finds success in networking with these groups and attracting individuals in getting involved in transportation. Mr. Jones has traveled around the country giving presentations and meeting with these groups in an attempt to expand the knowledge and awareness of the opportunities in the transportation industry.
