MTA New York City Transit Sweeps All Awards at 2006 APTA International Rail Rodeo Competition

MTA New York City Transit won the prestigious Rail Transit Team Achievement Award at the fourteenth Annual International Rail Rodeo, held in conjunction with the American Public Transportation Association’s Rail Conference in New York City. The winners were announced today. The MTA New York City Transit winning team included: Jesus Rodriguez (Operator), Clinton Blair (Operator), Jianmin Hsiao (Maintainer), Anton Samoylozich (Maintainer), and Brian Randall (Maintainer).

The Rail Transit Team Achievement Award recognizes the men and women who keep North America’s rail transit systems operating safely and efficiently. It is given to the operator and maintainer team that has the highest combined score of all competing rail transit systems.

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority won second place for the Rail Transit Team Achievement Award. Chicago Transit Authority won third place.

The Operators Competition measures professional skills including: train operation; knowledge of safety regulations; train equipment; and track right-of-way rules and procedures.

First place in the Operators Competition went to MTA New York City Transit operators Jesus Rodriguez and Clinton Blair. Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority earned a second place finish. Sacramento Regional Transit District won third place.

The Maintainers Competition judges the ability to troubleshoot maintenance problems. MTA New York City Transit also earned first place in this competition. The winning maintainers were Jianmin Hsiao, Anton Samoylozich, and Brian Randall. Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority earned second place. Third place went to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.

The International Rail Rodeo Competition is designed to encourage excellence and professionalism in rail transit operations. A total of 20 of North America’s finest rail transit systems with 32 operators and 48 maintainers participated. The competition was held at the MTA New York City Transit’s Coney Island Yard in Brooklyn.
