Synopsis: The Track Circuit Monitoring Tool has been designed to monitor - in real time - track circuit operations. Track circuits are critical components of any train control system. They provide vital train location assuring safe and reliable revenue service operations. When the Track Circuit Monitoring Tool identifies abnormal operation, it immediately alerts staff to the location and severity of events, affecting the reliability and the potential for unsafe operation. Currently, this tool is successfully operating at WMATA and is in the process of being installed at MARTA and CTA. This tool has been documented and is now available to the industry as an APTA Recommended Practice. This tool meets all requirements of the NTSB urgent request to FTA R-09-7.
