Synopsis: The Track Circuit
Monitoring Tool has been designed to monitor - in real time - track circuit
operations. Track circuits are critical components of any train control system.
They provide vital train location assuring safe and reliable revenue service
operations. When the Track Circuit Monitoring Tool identifies abnormal
operation, it immediately alerts staff to the location and severity of events,
affecting the reliability and the potential for unsafe
operation. Currently, this tool is successfully operating at WMATA and is
in the process of being installed at MARTA and CTA. This tool has been
documented and is now available to the industry as an APTA Recommended
Practice. This tool meets all requirements of the NTSB urgent request to FTA
