Federal investments in passenger rail and public transit are fueling major infrastructure upgrades across the country—and companies like Herzog are helping make them possible. A national leader in rail construction, maintenance, and operations, Herzog partners with public agencies to deliver large-scale projects that improve mobility, support economic growth, and create good-paying American jobs. Headquartered in Missouri, Herzog employs more than 2,800 professionals across the U.S.—from project managers and engineers to track crews and signal technicians. Their work supports not just the delivery of modern, high-quality infrastructure, but the long-term workforce behind it.
This work is taking shape through high-impact projects like the following:
- Herzog was awarded the contract to design and construct a new Heavy Maintenance Facility at Amtrak’s Penn Coach Yard in Philadelphia, as part of Amtrak’s $5.5 billion FY24 capital investment program. The facility—one of six planned nationwide—will support maintenance and repair for Acela and Northeast Regional trains running along the Northeast Corridor.
- In Los Angeles County, Herzog is partnering with infrastructure builder FlatironDragados to deliver the Southeast Gateway Light Rail Line, a 14.5-mile corridor that will add nine new stations. The $997 million contract is part of an estimated $8.6 billion investment to expand public transit access across southeast L.A.
- Herzog, in partnership with Walsh Construction, recently completed the $650 million South Shore Line Double-Track Project, adding nearly 17 miles of new track to improve connections between Indiana suburbs and Chicago. The project upgraded stations, added electric trains, and removed crossings to shorten travel times and increase frequency. Work is also underway on the $950 million West Lake Corridor extension, which will expand the line further south to more communities in Indiana.
These projects represent just a snapshot of how federal funding is boosting Herzog’s work nationwide. From coast to coast, the company is helping deliver safe, efficient, and modern infrastructure that keeps America moving – all while providing skilled job opportunities for thousands of Americans.
