Personal Security Awareness in Transit Toolkit
ONLINE TOOLKIT
The online toolkit below is designed to highlight the resources and strategies transit authorities are taking to increase personal security awareness in mass transit. These strategies include anti-harassment campaigns, development of new mobile apps to assist in crime reporting, and the distribution of posters and cards to raise awareness of the problem.
Bay Area Rapid Transit Crime Reporting App
The BART Watch mobile app is an innovative method for riders to quickly report incidents directly to BART such as,
- Disruptive Behavior
- Robbery / Theft
- Sexual Harassment
- Unattended Bag or Package
- Vandalism
- Illegally Parked Vehicles
Other transit agencies may consider adopting similar apps to assist with the reporting and resolving of incidents taking place within their jurisdiction.
Not One More Girl Initiative
BART’s "Not One More Girl" Initiative is an anti-harassment campaign developed by BART and partner groups to fight against sexual harassment on public transportation. In the year following its implementation there has been early signs of success with the program showing an overall lower number of individuals reporting sexual harassment on public transportation.
