Washington, D.C. (March 18, 2024) – The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is recognizing March 18, 2024 as National Transit Employee Appreciation Day both to honor the nation’s dedicated individuals who power public transit systems and to showcase the rewarding careers available in the industry, which directly employs 430,000 people and supports millions of private-sector jobs.

“From bus drivers and maintenance staff to customer service representatives and administrative professionals, public transportation employees play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life in communities across the nation,” said APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas. “National Transit Employee Appreciation Day is an occasion to express gratitude for all their hard work and commitment.”

APTA has provided resources to help transit agencies across the U.S. host appreciation events, provide special recognitions, or offer tokens of appreciation to their workforces. As part of the celebration, APTA launched an official hashtag, #TransitEmployeeAppreciationDay, to serve as a unifying force, bringing together individuals and organizations nationwide in honoring transit employees.

National Transit Employee Appreciation Day not only celebrates the contributions of transit workers but also raises awareness about the importance of investing in public transportation infrastructure and supporting the workforce behind it.
