The Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) develops near-term, practical solutions to problems facing public transportation. TCRP is sponsored by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and carried out by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), in partnership with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).

Sponsored by the Federal Transit Administration, the Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) serves as one of the principal means by which the public transportation industry can develop innovative near-term solutions to meet demands placed on it. TCRP has an established reputation for providing useful reports and other tools to help public transportation practitioners solve problems and inform decision makers.

TCRP Ambassadors participate in industry events and visit transportation providers in order to educate the public transit industry on the wide variety of solution-based research available from TCRP. The essential role of an Ambassador is to be a liaison between TCRP, its member organizations, the research community, and transportation properties.

Do you have a research idea that addresses issues of broad relevance to transit agencies and is critical to improving service delivery, quality, or cost efficiency? The TCRP is currently soliciting for problem statements for the Fiscal Year 2027 program. We have created a video to guide you in the development of your problem statements. TCRP research is conducted in all areas of public transportation, from operations to marketing to emerging technologies like AI! Are you interested in submitting a problem statement?
