National Transit Career Day
FAQs
Join the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) in celebrating National Transit Career Day on Thursday, November 12, 2026.
This is a powerful opportunity for private and public sector along with agencies and non-profit organizations to partner in increasing the interest in transportation careers. You can highlight the exciting career paths available in public transportation for engineers, planners, marketing professionals, social media experts, operators, managers, executives, and beyond.
APTA has free resources to assist with recruiting new talent and engaging current employees. We invite transit agencies, government partners, K-12 schools, universities, private-sector companies, and non-profit organizations around the globe to join us on November 12, 2026. If you’re ready to ignite transit career interest in your region, sign up today https://forms.office.com/r/bEtGYWsKXM
Sign up your organization to participate in National Transit Career Day using the following link:
Organizations that sign up to participate will host National Transit Career Day onsite in your own town/city at a facility/school/depot/station/etc. OR host a virtual event OR host a social media campaign. Your transit career day onsite OR virtual event can focus on an existing initiative that your organization is currently working on. You can also tap into ideas from the APTA HR Operations Working Group meetings or use the APTA resource toolkit.
Both APTA member and non-member organizations in the public and private sector, academia, and government are invited to participate in National Transit Career Day. See the Map and List from 2025.
The simultaneous events around the country and the globe on one day is a collective effort for organizations to participate in marketing, media coverage, individual/company social media, career fairs, school tours, university visits, and more, to ignite transportation career(s) interest and excitement.
This initiative is designed to feature technology, procurement, safety, engineering, finance, operations, maintenance, and more. The goal is to energize the public transportation industry and capture the attention of current professionals and future talent.
Yes, please use #TransitCareers and brand your event or social media post as a “National Transit Career Day” event in partnership with APTA.
Also, you can use the National Transit Career Day logo:

If your organization has a recruitment or retention initiative that you are currently working on, you can simply schedule your event on November 12th, sign-up to participate, and market your event as a “National Transit Career Day” initiative.
If your organization is currently hiring, and has multiple jobs to fill, we recommend a public facing event like a career fair. You would publicize your career fair as National Transit Career Day and invite professionals in various job categories to bring their CV and learn about careers.
APTA will provide resources like “how to” 1-page checklists and “day in the life of” career videos to help.
If your organization is not hiring, you could host a student tour of a facility or send a bus/operator/manager/maintainer to school to introduce students to the technology and equipment. You could also engage your organization’s employees by planning tours on November 12, 2026. So often your staff members are the experts in their own area yet have very little exposure to locations, tasks, and staff in other locations or careers. Ultimately, you can consider assigning time/budget to organize the best National Transit Career Day event to meet the needs of your organization.
This is a Workforce Development Committee strategy (Chair – LaShanda Dawkins), being led by the HR Operations Working Group (Leads – Rosa Medina-Cristobal, Mersida Ibric, Kelley Schneider). You can email APTA’s Workforce Development and Educational Services team lead for this initiative, Ms. Cherise Myers, at Workforce@apta.com for additional information on National Transit Career Day.
