Participants to Discuss the Future of Transit

More than 500 members of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) will convene in Washington, DC at the APTA Legislative Conference March 10 – 11, 2008, to discuss a variety of topics including: the future of public transportation financing; the strategic role public transportation plays in climate change; and expanding the transit coalition for the authorization debate. On Tuesday afternoon, March 11, the 500+ APTA members will visit their congressional representatives.

As part of this year’s Legislative Conference, APTA members will hear from the Federal Transit Administrator James S. Simpson and Pennsylvania Governor and National Governors Association incoming chair Edward G. Rendell. Congressional members scheduled to attend include: Representative Peter DeFazio (D-OR), chair, Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure; Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), member, Committee on Ways and Means; Representative John L. Mica (R-FL), ranking member, Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure; Representative James E. Clyburn (D-SC), majority whip; Senator Benjamin Cardin (D-MD), member, Committee on Environment and Public Works and Committee on the Budget.
