Dear Chairman Price and Ranking Member Diaz-Balart:

On behalf of America’s public transportation industry, which contributes $71 billion to the U.S. economy, directly employs 430,000 workers, and supports millions of private-sector jobs, I write to express our strong support for Division E of H.R. 3055, the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2020.

We are grateful that H.R. 3055 continues historic funding levels for public transportation and passenger rail by providing $16.2 billion, including $13.5 billion for public transportation and $2.7 billion for passenger rail grants. This funding will help bring the nation’s bus and rail systems to a state of good repair and will permit communities to move forward with critical public transportation and passenger rail projects to meet the growing transportation needs of Americans.

Again, we thank you for your strong support for public transportation and passenger rail and look forward to continuing to work with you.

Sincerely,

Paul P. Skoutelas
President and CEO
