COLUMBUS, OHIO (May 3, 2022) – The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) announced today the winners of the 2022 Bus Safety and Security Excellence Awards.

“Every year our industry works closely together to advance the cause of providing transportation to all Americans. A major part of that effort is addressing security and safety advancements and sharing best practices with systems across the country. I want to congratulate the public transit systems being honored for their safety and security contributions to the industry,” said APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas. “Their work will guide the continued growth and advancement of public transit, making it safer for their passengers, employees, and communities nationwide.”

The APTA Bus and Rail Safety & Security Excellence Awards recognize public transit providers for their innovative and proactive safety and security programs. These awards help to build the industry by benchmarking successful initiatives so other systems can implement and fine-tune their programs based on the findings of their peers.

Nominations are evaluated on four criteria: effectiveness, benefit level, innovation, and transferability. The top honor is the GOLD Award, which is presented to organizations with the best example of a safety or security program. A Certificate of Merit is given to organizations in recognition of exceptional achievement in safety or security.

The 2022 Safety & Security Excellence Award winners are awarded in categories based on bus ridership. Winners include systems from California, Indiana, Ontario, Quebec, and Texas.
