BASIC FUNCTION:
The Senior Accounting Manager oversees day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate recording, reconciliation, and reporting of financial transactions. Responsibilities include managing cash activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, revenue recognition, and the monthly close process. The role ensures compliance with GAAP and organizational policies, maintaining high standards of financial integrity.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Cash Management & Reconciliation: Supervise daily cash activity, lead monthly bank reconciliations, and ensure adherence to internal controls over cash receipts.
- Accounts Payable & Employee Reimbursements: Manage all aspects of accounts payable and employee reimbursements, ensuring accurate coding, timely processing, policy compliance, and reconciliation, while overseeing vendor relationships, 1099 reporting, internal controls, and continuous process improvements.
- Accounts Receivable & Revenue Recognition: Oversee billing, collections, and revenue recognition processes to ensure timely invoicing, accurate revenue reporting, and compliance with GAAP, while managing AR reconciliation, deferred revenue tracking, internal controls, and continuous process improvements.
- Payroll Processing & Compliance: Manage end-to-end payroll processing, ensure compliance with payroll laws, collaborate with Human Resources, reconciliation of payroll accounts, system integration and ongoing process improvement.
- Month-End Close & Financial Reporting: Lead the month-end and year-end close process, review and ensure timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, and financial reporting in compliance with GAAP, while supporting internal reporting, audits, system integrity and continuous process improvement.
- Prepaid Expenses & Fixed Assets: Manage prepaid expenses and fixed assets, ensuring accurate recording, amortization, capitalization, depreciation, and disposals in compliance with GAAP, while coordinating physical inventory and maintaining proper documentation.
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Maintain and enforce a comprehensive system of internal controls, ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements, and continuously evaluate and streamline processes.
- Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead and support the accounting team, foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, and act as a key financial partner to internal departments.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; CPA or CPA-track preferred.
- Six to ten years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Experience with payroll processing and compliance (e.g., ADP Workforce Now).
- Proven experience managing accounts payable, employee reimbursements, fixed assets, and prepaid expenses.
- High level of comfort with technology, including cloud-based accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate and lead in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professional judgment.

The annual base starting salary is anticipated to be in the range of $90,300 to $120,399.
This position is based in Washington D.C. and currently operates on a hybrid work schedule. Employees are required to work in the office on two specific days, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the flexibility to choose a third in-office day. The remaining two days of the work week can be worked remotely. Please note that this schedule may be adjusted at any time based on the Association’s needs.
